Creative Drama helps students develop better communication skills as well as creativity, self-awareness, empathy and practice in problem solving. The District 65 Drama Curriculum strongly emphasizes Creative Drama as a process-centered activity. In Creative Drama the leader guides the group to explore, develop, express and communicate ideas and feelings through dramatic enactment. The primary purpose of creative drama is to foster personality growth, develop teamwork, and to facilitate learning rather than to train actors for the stage. Creative Drama is not only used to make literature and history come alive, but elements of story structure such as character, plot, setting and conflict are also taught. Activities are differentiated to help each student be successful in the lesson.
