First graders will be continuing to dramatize the classic My Father’s Dragon using simple props. They love helping to outsmart the animals who have captured the dragon with props. In May they will be exploring the world of puppets.
Second graders will be working on performing insect poems for their culminating performance with Project AIM at Dawes School. At Walker School students have been extending their learning about the insect world by acting out poems about insects. They will end the year with creating scenes fromthe African folktale Who’s in Rabbit’s House.
Third graders have been creating frozen snapshots from Tall Tales. They will be entering the world of early pioneers with a Westward Expansion process drama. This drama will allow them to explore much of what they are learning in their classrooms about the decisions and problems of early pioneers.
Fourth graders are be focusing on creating collaborative scenes from the stories The Pied Piper and Liza Lou and the Yeller Belly Swamp. They have been giving each other constructive feedback on scenes using drama vocabulary.
Fifth grade has been finishing up a unit on Improvisation and will be creating mystery scenes from drawings in The Mystery of Harris Burdick. They will also be finishing up the year by creating their own fractured fairy tales. Fifth graders have also been focusing on using drama vocabulary in positive and constructive comments after the sharing of scenes.
