Working with partners, the second grade students are creating scenes for the story, Sam and Tigers. The students enjoyed bartering as well as bargaining at the flea market. Afterwards they pantomimed trying on the fine clothes they had purchased as well as acting out ways to outsmart the tigers.
The students in third grade continue to work on the folktale, The Three Sillies, or the story Those Shoes. In The Three Sillies they are creating scenes and dialogue in collaborative small groups, focusing on the creating larger-than- life characters through voice and movement. In Those Shoes students are focusing on the actions and reactions of characters as they try to make decisions about sharing.
Fourth graders are creating the world of The Twits. This Roald Dahl favorite allows students to create odd characters that love to trick one another. Ask your favorite fourth grader what is the scene they have enjoyed playing the most. Students have also been giving compliments on scenes using drama vocabulary.
Fifth graders have been working on believable characterizations through improvisation in the story, Wiley and the Hairy Man. They are working in small ensembles to create scenes and discussing what helps an ensemble to functions well.
Students at Walker school are preparing for their celebration of school diversity and cultures with World of Walker.
